Description

Crystal red shrimp are a selectively bred caridina line with opaque white and deep red banding. Grade A denotes clean banding with solid white; higher grades command higher prices as the white becomes thicker and more opaque.

They are not community animals. CRS want soft, acidic, very stable water and no fish large enough to eat them – which is to say a dedicated shrimp tank. Bred in our own Chennai facility, so they are already adapted to local conditions rather than shipped from a soft-water region and then failing.

Keeping notes

• Target TDS 100 – 150, pH 6.2 – 6.8, and temperature below 26 °C. Use RO water remineralised with a shrimp-specific salt.
• Stability beats perfection. A steady pH of 7.0 is better than one swinging between 6.2 and 6.8.
• Mature the tank for at least six weeks before adding shrimp. They live on biofilm.
• No copper, ever. Also avoid most snail treatments and plant fertilisers high in copper.
• Keep them alone or with nano fish too small to prey on shrimplets, such as ember tetras.
