Description

Dwarf hairgrass produces a fine, grassy lawn that moves in the flow – the classic foreground for an Iwagumi layout with a few stones and nothing else. It spreads by sending out runners under the substrate rather than growing sideways from the crown.

Supplied in a rockwool pot. Splitting the pot into many small plugs and spacing them out gives faster, more even coverage than planting a few large clumps.

Planting notes

• Remove all rockwool from the roots before planting.
• Split into plugs of 5 – 8 blades. Plant on a 3 cm grid.
• Trim the tips after planting – it encourages runners rather than vertical growth.
• Needs strong light to carpet. In low light it grows tall and thin instead of spreading.
