Description

Captive-bred ocellaris clownfish are the best first marine fish there is. They are already eating pellet food, they carry none of the parasites that come in with wild-caught stock, and they are unfazed by the confines of an aquarium.

Supplied as a bonded pair – a larger female and a smaller male that have already established a hierarchy, so there is no introduction aggression to manage. They do not require an anemone; they will happily host in a frogspawn coral, a rock crevice, or nothing at all.

Keeping notes

• Stable salinity at 1.024 – 1.026 specific gravity matters more than any other single parameter.
• A 100 litre tank with live rock, a skimmer or regular water changes, and moderate flow is enough for a pair.
• Reef safe – they will not pick at corals or invertebrates.
• Add a marine-specific quarantine period if you introduce any wild-caught fish later; captive-bred clowns have no acquired immunity.
