Description

Java moss is the plant you cannot kill. It grows in low light, in hard water, without CO2, floating or attached, at almost any temperature a tropical tank runs at. That makes it the default choice for shrimp tanks, fry grow-out tanks and any spot where you want green without effort.

Tie or glue a thin layer onto wood or a mesh and it will fill in over a few weeks. Left as a loose clump it becomes a dense refuge that shrimplets and fry hide in.

Planting notes

• Spread it thin when attaching. A thick clump rots in the middle where water cannot circulate.
• Trim with scissors to keep a tidy shape – untrimmed moss goes shaggy and traps detritus.
• Java moss holds algae once it gets in. Keep flow moving through it.
