Description

Fine sand is the correct substrate for any bottom-sifting fish – corydoras, loaches, geophagus – because sharp gravel wears down barbels and leads to infection. It also gives the bright, open foreground look of a nature-style scape.

This is washed, graded silica sand with no carbonate content, so it will not raise your pH or hardness.

Setup notes

• Rinse before use until the water runs clear. Sand carries fine dust even when pre-washed.
• Keep the layer shallow, 2 – 3 cm. Deep sand beds can develop anaerobic pockets.
• Stir the top layer gently during water changes to release trapped gas.
• Sand is inert. Root-feeding plants will need root tabs.
