Description

Rotala rotundifolia is the plant that teaches you to prune. It grows fast, it takes hard trimming without complaint, and under strong light with good iron availability the growing tips shift from green to pink and orange.

Planted as a dense group at the back of the tank and topped repeatedly, it forms a solid bush. Supplied as a bunch of 10 stems.

Planting notes

• Separate the bunch and plant stems individually, 2 – 3 cm apart. Planting the bundle as-is rots the inner stems.
• Top the stems rather than uprooting them – replant the cuttings to thicken the group.
• Colour comes from high light plus iron. Under low light it stays plain green.
• Fast growth means it strips nutrients quickly; keep up with dosing or it stunts.
