Description

One amazon sword in the back corner of a 3 ft tank does the job of a dozen stem plants. It grows into a broad rosette of long, ribbed leaves 30 – 40 cm tall and needs almost no maintenance beyond removing the occasional old leaf.

It is a heavy root feeder, which is the one thing to get right: in inert gravel with no root tabs it slowly starves and the leaves develop holes.

Planting notes

• Bury the roots fully, keep the crown clear of the substrate.
• Push root tabs into the substrate near the roots every couple of months.
• It needs depth – 3 cm of substrate minimum, more is better.
• Plan for its final size. It will shade out anything planted behind it.
