Chennai rarely needs aquarium heating, but discus, cardinal tetras and marine systems do want a stable temperature, and the January nights and air-conditioned rooms are enough to cause a swing. A heater with a reliable thermostat holds the tank steady rather than letting it drift.

Safety notes

• Always unplug the heater before a water change. Running it in air cracks the glass.
• Mount it horizontally near the filter outflow so heated water circulates.
• Use a separate thermometer as a cross-check. Thermostats do fail, and they usually fail on.
• Never place a heater against acrylic or against silicone seams.
